History

Mercy High School is a Catholic college preparatory school for young women, grades 9 through 12, sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy. The school was founded in 1960 with a mission to provide a superior education to diverse young women. Committed to excellence, Mercy seeks to develop each person's full potential and to educate students to personal responsibility and cooperation with others.

The school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the Association of Independent Maryland and DC Schools. It holds membership in the Mercy Secondary Education Association, the Association of Independent Maryland and DC Schools, and the National Catholic Educational Association. Mercy has been named an Exemplary Private School by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for American Private Education.
