Why did you choose to attend Mercy?
I knew Mercy was a wonderful school after seeing how much my sister enjoyed her four years here. I
just knew it was the school for me. Now that I, too, am a "Mercy Girl" I am experiencing for myself the
great academics, traditions, clubs and opportunities this school has to offer. From my first day at
Mercy, I have felt very welcomed and part of the Mercy family. I've made lots of new friends, and I really
like my teachers. With great anticipation, I look forward to making the most of my high school
experience at Mercy.

How did you know Mercy was the right school for you?
To tell you the truth, I did not know much about Mercy, and one day my mother and I were reading
the Catholic Review and saw that Mercy was having an Open House. Since I had nothing to lose, I
decided to attend. I have never felt any other school welcome me like Mercy did. That day the
Principal, Sr. Carol, spoke about Mercy's "magic" and I truly felt it. My parents could see my face light
up with joy. Some people believe in love at first sight, and I do too, because I fell in love with Mercy on
the day of Open House. I did not know anyone there, but I never felt like a stranger. I told my parents
right away that I wanted to attend. On my shadow day, I learned that Mercy had so many clubs,
organizations, sports, and other activities. Mercy not only wants its students to experience high
quality education, but also to be active and have well-rounded students. The classes are 75 minutes
each, and much can be gained from that time in the classroom. The teachers can get to know their
students better, and cover more material. They also have the advantage to help every student and to
review for tests. The girls here feel very comfortable with one another. It's great when you don't have
to worry about guys! With all of these wonderful reasons to attend Mercy, I could not resist. The
choice was easy!

How did you adjust to Mercy coming from a public school?
Coming from a public school, Mercy was an easy adjustment. Teachers and students were so
welcoming. I was able to meet many new people during summer field hockey try-outs. At Mercy, they
make you feel like everyone can succeed in something, whereas in public school, it was the G/T kids
that seemed more important. Mercy has opened many new doors for me to be a leader, and to have
my voice heard.

How has Mercy influenced who you are today?
Mercy has influenced who I am by helping me to realize that I can go beyond my comfort zone, and
explore new areas than those I am used to. For example, I've been running cross country since age
nine, so when I came to Mercy last year I didn't think twice about joining the team here. Then in
September I decided to sign up for a club, and there were so many! I didn't know which one to
choose, but I decided that since I was in a new school with totally new people, I didn't have anything to
lose by trying something brand new. I chose Social Dance, stepping out of my comfort zone and trying
something different. Mercy has definitely challenged me to branch out to new activities, which I may
not have done before..

How has Mercy helped you to develop your talents?
When I first came to Mercy, I was very shy. Then I started to feel welcome and shortly after I began to
open up. The hospitality of Mercy made me feel very comfortable, and I became more outgoing and
confident. During my freshman year I joined many clubs. In my sophomore year, I became the
secretary of my class. Through my work with Mercy's Public Relations committee, and the Steering
committee I became more confident with speaking and relating to administrators, faculty, and fellow
students. I was very honored to receive the prestigious Flame Award for my accomplishments during
my freshman and sophomore years. During the summer of 2007, I was asked to attend the HIgh
School Leadership conference. There I improved upon my leadership skills, such as planning
events, managing stress, and motivating others. As a Junior, I am developing new talents, such as
expressing ideas I never knew I had, and improving upon the talents I already have. Through my
participation in activities, I can glady say that Mercy has helped me to develop and improve some of
the talents in my life.

How has Mercy helped you to develop your talents?
Mercy has given me my own voice. Before I came to Mercy, I was very introverted, but now I have the
confidence to go out and try new things, like the basketball team and dance troupe. Mercy gives me
the chance to explore my talents every day, and the school gives me the tools to reach my highest
level of performance. Through Mercy I have met many people that have nurtured my talents, and who
have helped me when I have felt defeated. The confidence I have built at Mercy has also allowed me
to develop a relationship with my teachers, who then help me to better understand concepts and
expose my academic strengths. Mercy has given me the initiative to speak up for myself at school as
well as in the outside world.

What has been your best Mercy memory so far?
I have had so much fun and met so many great people through playing sports here at Mercy, but I'd
have to say that my best memory was the Mercy/ IND game last year. As a sophomore on varsity, I
didn't know anything about what it was like to play in front of so many people. As soon as we came
out to warm up for the big game, I realized what a great feeling it was to have so much support from
the school. Everyone was decked out in red and white, and full of spirit. The fans cheered the entire
time, especially in the end as we won for the first time in a few years. Being able to represent my
school on the court was so great. The Mercy/ IND game is such a wonderful tradition for both the
Mercy basketball team and its fans.

How has Mercy prepared you for the "real world?"
At Mercy I have so many chances to learn and grow as a young woman. During class the teachers
don't hold your hand. Instead, they let you do the activities yourself and make the mistakes so you can
learn from them. Faculty talk to us like mature young women. It was nice to come to Mercy from
middle school and have a sense of independence. I know that I am responsible for my own
education and success, like I will be in the real world. Mercy has also taught me to manage my time
so that I can get my work finished, and also have time to participate in the many extra-curricular
activities I am involved in. I feel that I am prepared for the real world, because I will take everything
Mercy has taught me with me on that journey.

What advice would you give to the incoming freshman class?
As a freshman coming into Mercy, you may be scared or nervous, but you don't need to be. Personally
I felt so welcomed as a freshman, and thought that everyone was nice and friendly. Some advice that I
could give based on personal experience is to get involved! This is the best way to meet new people
and make new friends. Take advantage of all the opportunity Mercy has to offer its students. If you
need to see a teacher, they are always available for appointments, because they want to see you
succeed in high school. Don't be afraid to try new things, because challenging yourself is a part of the
high school experience. Most importantly, take advantage of your four years here, because they go by
so fast. Before you know it, you will be walking down the aisle at the Cathedral for graduation.

What has been your best memory at Mercy High School?
My best memory at Mercy has to do with my involvement in drama. It may have been the first time I
ever performed onstage, the first time I learned how to use a power drill at set build, or the first time I
played the role of a male character. I have gained amazing knowledge, experience, and memories
going to school at Mercy that I will carry with me to college. There are so many great friends I have
made through drama and in classes.
