Music

The objectives of the music program include fostering teamwork, leadership, performance presence, and collaboration among students in music ensembles and in music courses. The emphasis in the music program is placed on the performance as a final product. The Mercy Choir, open to all students by audition, allows interested students to develop vocal technique and good musicianship in a quality vocal ensemble. The Mercy Madrigals is a smaller choral group, performing more advanced choral literature in school concerts, liturgies, special events, and off–campus appearances. The Mercy Ensemble Players is a select instrumental group that specializes in chamber music and music for small orchestra.

Mr. F. Eugene Sung, director of the Music program, is an accomplished violinist and pianist. He is an organist in the chapel at Stella Maris in Timonium, Maryland.

All Music offerings, except for the Music Theory courses, are open to freshmen. Music for Worship is a two–year, interdisciplinary course in music and religion that introduces students to the music that is used during school worship. The Introductory and Advanced Music Theory courses are elective semester courses for juniors and seniors.
