Tess B. ’27, Maria C. ’27, and Khloe S. ’28 volunteered at polling places throughout Baltimore for the November 2026 midterm elections.
Three Mercy High School students who are not yet old enough to vote took an active role in the democratic process during the 2026 midterm elections today by serving as election judges.
Seniors Tess B. and Maria C., and junior Khloe S. joined election officials and community volunteers today at polling locations, helping ensure that Election Day ran smoothly and that voters have a positive experience at the polls. Their responsibilities included assisting with operations, welcoming voters, and supporting the administration of the election in accordance with the State of Maryland’s procedures.
“Having these three students serve as election judges is a wonderful example of how Mercy Girls and alumnae are stepping forward to make a difference in their communities,” said Mercy’s president Mary Beth Lennon, an alumna of the Class of 1985. “Election participation goes beyond casting a ballot. By volunteering their time and taking part in the election process, Tess, Maria, and Khloe are gaining firsthand experience in how our democracy works, as well as the importance of civic engagement. Their involvement sends an important message: You don’t have to wait until you’re older to make a meaningful impact.”
Tess, Maria, and Khloe all noted how excited they are to learn more about the election day process and procedures, and that this opportunity allows them to gain insight into politics at the local level. An aspiring attorney, Maria is also a member of Mercy’s Law and Social Action Program which provides students with opportunities to evaluate how interdependence, as well as political, legal, social, and economic change, affect all communities. Students also explore social change through governance, social and legal policy, and justice. Tess and Maria will be stationed at Leith Walk Elementary/Middle School in Baltimore’s Ramblewood neighborhood and Khloe was assigned to St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church. The students reported at 5:45 a.m. and will conclude their day at 8:00 p.m.
