Visual Arts Program

The Visual Arts Program

Mercy’s four-year Visual Arts Program offers robust opportunities to explore the elements, principles, and history of art as students learn to work in a variety of media. The Visual Arts Program teaches Mercy Girls to develop powerful skills of observation as they hone their techniques.  

This program is open to incoming ninth graders and culminates in the creation of a portfolio which can be used for applying to college or for scholarships. In the past, Mery Girls have submitted their portfolios to the College Board for Advanced Placement Studio Art exams, resulting in college credits earned prior to high school graduation. Many Visual Arts Program graduates are currently working in the field as artists, curators, graphic designers, or arts educators.  
A variety of visual art classes are offered each year, covering a wide-range of media including drawing, ceramics, photography, and digital media. Classes give our Mercy Girls a multi-faceted opportunity to learn creative thought processes through the production of their works.

The National Art Honor Society at Mercy High School recognizes and assists members as they attain their highest potential in all forms of art while raising awareness of art education throughout the school and the community.
Mark your calendars for our AP Art Show! Join us in the Sister Marie Foley College Counseling Center as we celebrate the artistic accomplishments of our AP Art students as they put the finishing touches on their portfolios! See you there!
