  • French Teacher & World Languages Department Chair

    School Overview:

    Mercy High School is seeking a full-time French teacher and World Languages Department Chair to begin August 2026. The ideal candidate can teach all proficiency levels in French and demonstrate leadership qualities. Candidates should be academically strong and dedicated to teaching a diverse group of girls in a community that values intellectual pursuits, strong relationships, and spiritual development. The successful candidate will be cognizant of the special role a teacher has in the spiritual and religious development of youth, model critical inquiry and lifelong learning, and demonstrate integrity and fairness in all aspects of community life.
     
    As a school authorized by the International Baccalaureate to offer the Middle Years Programme, Mercy’s curriculum in grades 9 and 10 features concept-based instruction and structured inquiry as a pedagogical tool. Courses in the upper levels are challenging and engaging. Mercy is authorized to offer the IB Diploma Programme in grades 11 and 12. This position requires that the teacher implement both programs. While previous experience with these programs is preferred, it is not a requirement.
     
    Responsibilities:
    • Plan and effectively implement the French curriculum for five French courses, French I, French II, French III/DP French I, French IV/DP French II, and French V.
    • Use pedagogical best practices, learning standards, and assessments to drive student growth and achievement in alignment with Mercy’s expectations and the International Baccalaureate framework.
    • Provide instructional leadership for the World Languages Department in curriculum development and pedagogy.
    • Create a positive, cooperative, and organized classroom atmosphere.
    • Advise a small group of students, serve on a grade-level team, and be an IB Personal Project Supervisor.
    • Moderate the French Honor Society.
    • Maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
    • Work collaboratively with the department, year-level teams, student services, and academic leadership team to support student learning.
    • Respect and support the School’s mission.
    • Actively engage in professional growth by keeping abreast of current trends in education, attending professional development, engaging in reflective practice, and attending all planning and staff meetings.

  • Part-Time Theatre Technical Director

    Mercy High School is seeking a theatre technical director to assist with the school’s performing arts events. The ideal candidate has the knowledge and expertise to design and implement the technological aspects of performing arts events and a willingness to share that knowledge in an education-based performing arts environment. Candidates should be dedicated to working with a diverse group of girls in a community that values intellectual pursuits, strong relationships, and spiritual development.

    Responsibilities
    • Plan and effectively implement the technological aspects of school events including but not limited to two theatre, two music, two dance, and one variety productions including:
      • Sound design
      • Lighting Design
    • Support overlapping production timelines and shared use of theater spaces.
    • Design lighting plots and cue sheets appropriate to each production.
    • Manage lighting inventory and sound equipment.
      • Maintain, repair, and inventory lighting and sound instruments, cables, and accessories.
      • Hang, circuit, focus, and program lighting systems.
      • Track equipment usage, damage, and replacement needs.
      • Resell old equipment when necessary or ensure it is disposed of appropriately.
    • Assist with budgeting, purchasing, and vendor coordination.
    • Maintain cleanliness and organization or technical spaces.
    • Ensure performance spaces are prepared, functional, and reset after use.
    • Advise administration of facility upgrades and long-term technical planning.
    • Coordinate with faculty, staff, and administrators to support production and events.
    • Schedule and oversee technical rehearsals and crew calls.
    • Create a positive, cooperative, and organized atmosphere and willingness to lead student technicians.
    • Train and mentor student crew members.
    • Teach and model proper use of tools, equipment, and theatrical technology.
    • Enforce safety standards and maintain a safe working environment at all times.
    • Maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.

    The compensation for this position is $3,500-$4,500. Candidates with additional experience or qualifications may be offered a stipend outside of the range shown. There may be the opportunity for paid projections on an as needed basis.

The position would continue until the teacher returns from leave anticipated in the end of October 2026. The ideal candidate can teach topics included in Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, and Statistics mathematics courses. Candidates should be academically strong and dedicated to teaching a diverse group of girls in a community that values intellectual pursuits, strong relationships, and spiritual development.   • Substitute Teachers

    Mercy High School seeks dynamic, student-centered individuals to become a part of our daily substitute list.  Mercy High School is an independent, Catholic, all-girls, college preparatory school for students in grades 9-12 located in Baltimore, MD.
    Substitutes will be contacted for daily assignments in any of Mercy High School’s academic areas on an as-needed basis. The length of an individual substitute teaching assignment varies but will generally be between the hours of 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. 

    Key duties:
    • Provide continuity in student learning
    • Adhere to the classroom teacher’s daily lesson plans
    • Effectively supervise the classroom
    • Collect and distribute assignments
    • Adhere to school policies and procedures
    • Supervise students during non-instructional time in accordance with absent teacher’s schedule
    • Other teaching duties as requested 
    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s Degree required
    • Prior experience with students in grades 9-12 is strongly preferred, particularly in a classroom setting
