The Sister Agnese Neumann Scholars Program

The Sister Agnese Neumann Scholars Program in partnership with MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital

The Sister Agnese Neumann Scholars Program in partnership with MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital provides hands-on experience in fundamental lifesaving skills in a healthcare setting, including CPR, patient safety training, infection prevention, and first-responder training. This three-year program allows Mercy Girls to explore key specialties at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital: aging science, occupational and physical therapy, nursing, and community and public health.

This highly competitive program is open to incoming ninth graders and rising tenth graders, and honors the first chair of Mercy’s science department, Sister Agnese Neumann, RSM, who went on to a career as a nurse practitioner. Spanning three years and culminating in a summer internship, this program’s methodical approach prepares Mercy Girls for careers related to the hospital’s specialties.
The Sister Agnese Neumann Scholars Program in partnership with MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital includes visits to the hospital*, rotations in multiple disciplines, skills-based training, Dine & Discover topics, nursing grand rounds, and a culminating internship.

*Visits to the hospital are dependent on regional health indicators.

All Mercy Girls who participate in the Sister Agnese Neumann Scholars Program are required by Medstar Good Samaritan Hospital to have a negative TB test and proof of vaccination for all common childhood vaccines, and influenza. Vaccination requirements are subject to change.

  • Year 3 Programming

In the third year of the Sister Agnese Neumann Scholars Program, Mercy Girls receive CPR training and attend a hands-on simulation lab training.
