Maria Breschi Lombardo, RN ’64, P’02, GP’26 graduated from the Saint Joseph School of Nursing in 1968. She began her nursing career in the Emergency Room at St. Joseph Medical Center and received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Maryland in 1979. Maria served as a nurse in the Emergency Department at St. Joseph Medical Center from 1968 to 2008, including her role as nurse manager from 1974-1980 and 2000-2008. Following a 40-year career as a nurse in the Emergency Department, Maria served as a nurse in the Cardiac Cath Prep and Recovery Unit at St. Joseph Medical Center for 13 years.

In 2017, Maria was inducted into the Profiles of Compassion Society at St. Joseph Medical Center. This award honored her exceptional commitment to extraordinary patient care, her colleagues, and her community. Maria retired from the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center after 53 years of nursing in 2021. She currently continues working as an adjunct teacher in the Nursing Program at Community College of Baltimore County, Essex.

As a student at Mercy, Maria was a member of the first Mercy basketball team. She is a former Alumnae Executive Board member, where she served as vice president in 1965. She has remained involved in the Mercy community in many ways, including her roles as a Field Day judge, phonathon captain, Mothers’ Club member, and member of the Mother-Daughter Luncheon Committee. Currently, Maria is involved at Mercy through her daughter and granddaughter, Liz Lombardo Grab ’02, P’26 and Faith G. ’26.
