The Bishop P. Francis Murphy and LeRoy E. Hoffberger Memorial Fund

The purpose of this Fund shall be to enrich and elevate the life of the Mercy High School community through the teaching of the Hebrew Scriptures with special attention given to literary forms, such as Hebrew poetry, myth, and prophetic literature by Jewish scholars. This program answers the call of the Second Vatican Council on Christians to explore their common spiritual heritage with Jews and to further mutual understanding. This interfaith program was endorsed by the Baltimore Board of Rabbis in 1989 and by Cardinal William Keeler and Bishop P. Francis Murphy in 1994. This dedicated Fund was created by the Thomas More Project in 2024 to support the teaching of the Hebrew Scriptures in the Religious Studies department at Mercy High School.
