Dear members of the Mercy community,

I am delighted to announce our 2024 Commencement speaker, Ms. Lenora Henry ’88, a dedicated alumna and community leader. She will speak at Mercy High School’s 61st commencement exercises at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen on Friday, May 31, 2024. Previous distinguished speakers have included Sr. Helen Amos, RSM, executive chair of Mercy Health Services Board of Trustees; Dr. Theresa Felder, president of Harford Community College; and Ms. Mary Ann Scully, dean of the Sellinger School of Business & Management at Loyola University Maryland and former president and CEO of Howard Bank.

Lenora was appointed as the executive director for the American Red Cross of Central Maryland in September 2023 after a national search. In her role, Lenora leads efforts to ensure community engagement and Red Cross service delivery in Baltimore City and Baltimore, Harford, and Carroll counties. Most recently, her team responded to the Key Bridge tragedy by providing food, mental health counseling, and financial assistance to the families of those lost.

With more than 25 years of experience in management, fundraising, and strategic planning, Lenora has cultivated relationships with city and state agencies, businesses, faith based, and neighborhood organizations. She made history as the first woman to serve as executive director of the Baltimore City Chamber of Commerce. Lenora currently serves on the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance Board of Directors and the Black Leadership Advisory Council through the Associated Black Charities. She is also a former board member of Shepherd’s Clinic in East Baltimore and a former member of our Alumnae Association Board.
Having transferred to Mercy as a sophomore, Lenora speaks fondly of her experiences as a Mercy Girl, and she believes the Sisters of Mercy and her Mercy education positioned her well for the future. Lenora earned her undergraduate degree in business from Sojourner-Douglass College and her master’s degree in public administration with a concentration in nonprofit management from the University of Baltimore. We look forward to welcoming Lenora to share words of wisdom with the Class of 2024 as they become Women of Mercy!

Sincerely yours,

Mary Beth Lennon ’85
President
